“ I am so grateful for the time I have spent working with Cathy to relieve my shoulder/rotator cuff pain. When I first began meeting with her in August 2018, I was having a significant amount of pain in my left shoulder and rotator cuff. Cathy immediately put me at ease and assessed my needs and physical abilities. I was not even able to put my legs up the wall without my left leg getting prickly and beginning to feel numb! Cathy suggested that my shoulder issues could be connected to my lower back/leg/hip. She sent me home with several specific movements to do, which I did 5-7 days/week. We met weekly for a few months, then twice a month, and now continue to meet monthly. In that time, I have come to understand how moving in the sagittal plane can be improved by twisting movements and how paying attention to my ‘yellow lights’ is key to improving my ability to function in a more coordinated manner with greater ease. My shoulder function is just about completely back to normal and my hip function (which has been a chronic issue over my 67 years) is improving steadily. If I lose track of the progress I’ve made, Cathy kindly reminds me of where I started and where I am now – the growth really is remarkable!” -- Betsy W.
“As I write this, I am approximately 1 year into private yoga therapy with Cathy. I do not say this much but it has truly changed my life. I am in my early 40s and spent my youth doing physically tough and frankly damaging sports. From dirt bike crashes, skiing wrecks, or silly falls on trail runs, I injured and re-injured my knees and ankles. Progressively over the course of 10 years I went from running a half marathon at a sub-8-minute mile pace to barely being able to walk or climb stairs. Last year I went for an annual trip with friends where we did a small hike. My feet and ankles were so weak I could not maintain my balance on smooth trails. I turned my ankle shortly after that and was forced to use a cane. At that I contacted Cathy. I did not know what to expect but had taken yoga classes from Cathy for many years. The initial consults were focused on identifying what could be causing my injuries and weakness instead of simply providing little exercises. Her knowledge of yoga and anatomy allowed her to provide unique and evolving plans and movements tailored to my specific ailments. Within 4-6 weeks I was moving better (walking, going up stairs, etc.) and within 3 months I was cross country skiing (which I had not been able to do for a few years). By the end of winter I was doing short runs with my wife and longer hikes. I started mountain biking again and water skied in the summer. My quality of life, energy, and happiness have improved tremendously! One aspect of working with Cathy that I learned was to listen to my body. If it hurts, stop or walk. Cathy reinforced in me to be in harmony with my body instead of battling it, and this has further aided my steady improvements and prevented silly injuries. I still twist my ankle from time to time but am now able to recover within a few days rather than being down for weeks or months. Ultimately time and age affect us all, but my therapy with Cathy has allowed me to again enjoy life and the activities I love with the ones I love!” --Scott P.
“I have been working with Cathy for just over a year and it has proven to be and enlightening experience. In this time I have gained a better understanding of how my body actually works, how small movements can actually be more powerful and effective and being gentle with yourself is okay. I also have been meditating daily for about 4 months and the awareness I have gained, not just mentally, but also spiritually and physically has been a life changer. Thanks to Cathy and her genuine, easy and relaxing way of making you feel cared for and knowing she has your best interests at heart makes for a trusting relationship. I know how far I have come and I know with Cathy’s help and guidance and her knowledge of the body, I can’t wait to see where I go from here.” -- Sue L.
“Cathy is a wonderful yoga instructor. I have been meeting with Cathy one on one for several months and working with her has helped me to be aware of patterns of movement that I do which involve compensation and the instruction has definitely made a big difference in my life and how much stress my body feels.” -- Darlene R.
“Yoga Therapy is fun! But let me backtrack a bit...When I first started working with Cathy, my main concern was that I wanted some relief for my knees. I'm a cyclist, and my knees had begun to ache while biking. The first exercises Cathy and I worked on involved mostly my hips and hip flexors. Who would think that working on my hips would help my knees? But it was quite miraculous! After a very short time of yoga therapy, I found that my knees no longer ached. While biking, I discovered ways to use my body in a more efficient manner because I was discovering how to direct my energy. Cathy and I have continued to meet over the last several months. At age 67, I encounter a number of aches here and there. I also practice yoga about five times/week. Here again, I have found that my yoga therapy has helped with increasing my stability and ease through practice. My body is more efficient and stronger (and fewer aches). So, why is it fun? It's fun when I get up from my special-chair-for-reading and do a few movements Cathy has taught me. I feel more instantly limber and grounded. It's fun when I try some of my earlier exercises and realize that I have so much more flexibility and strength than when I started my therapy. It's REALLY FUN when I meet with Cathy and she shares my joy in my progress. I am becoming stronger, more stable, and my body moves with more ease and efficiency during my cycling, yoga classes, and in daily life. It's fun to feel more and more in harmony with myself each day.” --Jane S.
“Working with Cathy has been transformational! Not only has my hip and back pain subsided, but this incredible somatic work has allowed for me to find increased rest in my life. I have a more connected range of motion in my hips, better posture, and have uncovered habits of movement that have not been helpful to my recovery process. Cathy's gentle personality and inquisitive nature has made me feel safe during every session, and this particular kind of individualized work has made me feel very cared for and seen. Working with her has taken "yoga" to a whole other level and expanded my practice in a beautiful way!” — April A.
